arianagrandgay:

do parents not fucking realize how harmful it is to be constantly hypercritical of their children and that it affects the way they are when they become older

Things I just realized I got from being raised in an unstable household:

manicbones:

  • Not being able to sleep with the curtains closed
  • Not being able to wear noise-cancelling headphones
  • Having to know who is in the house at all times (checking whose shoes are there when I come home, looking for lights, etc.)
  • Being hyper aware of how much noise I make at any time
  • Being hyper aware of everyone else’s emotions
  • If someone is angry or anxious i have to be able to fix it, or I have to leave immediately
  • Knowing the sound of angry walking
  • If I’m sick/hungry/tired I instinctively hide it
  • My feelings are Never Important

It’s been 4 years since I moved out. I have my own apartment with roommates who I love who have never hurt me and I still. live. like. this.

superpunkjellyfish:

it’s okay if you’re hurting more than you thought.

it’s okay if you have to pick yourself up on your own.

it’s okay if you’re the one who needs to be gentle with you after you hurt.

it’s okay if you have to nurse a pain you thought was healed.

healing is slow and can be turbulent. and that’s okay.
