Current Book: Healing The Shame That Binds you by John Bradshaw
In an emotionally revealing way John Bradshaw shows us how toxic shame is the core problem in our compulsions, co-dependencies, addictions and the drive to super-achieve. The result is a breakdown in the family system and our inability to go forward with our lives. We are bound by our shame. Drawing from his 22 years of experience as a counselor, Bradshaw offers us the techniques to heal this shame. Using affirmations, visualizations, “inner voice” and “feeling” work plus guided meditations and other useful healing techniques, he releases the shame that binds us to the past. This important book breaks new ground in the core issues of societal and personal breakdown, offering techniques of recovery vital to all of us.
Who can join? This group is for you if you are interested in advancing your understanding of psychotherapy by expanding your knowledge, extending your awareness of the unconscious and delving into various models of psychotherapy to give you a gentle underpinning of integrative psychotherapy.
Who is the facilitator? Book Phoenixes is held by Jasmine Jarchevska, founder of Nurse The Soul. To read more about Jasmine’s work click here. We also occasionally have guest psychotherapists joining the discussion or leading a reading from time to time. Jasmine will facilitate the reading to allow you to drop into your own process of transformation as well as explore experiences you have come across in practice thus far.
What happens in a session? The format of the group is that we begin with introductions, how we are feeling and reflections of the previous week’s optional homework. We then usually spend about 45 minutes half reading and half pausing for therapeutic sharing and questions on the topic. At the end we invite you to spend time during the week reflecting in a diary, doing artwork, tracking dreams, writing myths/ poetry/ stories, and noticing synchronicities relating to something we have read this week. This invitation for homework is optional. We also have a what’s app group for connection, discussion and sharing with each other during the week.
What will I need? A copy of the book will be shared on the screen during the Zoom call but we do recommend that you purchase your own copy and keep it near you for highlighting and making your own notes. You will need a pair of earphones or headphones to help offset background noise. Get comfy blankets, pillows and cushions – somewhere snuggly like a bed or sofa. Light some candles, incense or use essential oils to create a sacred ritual space. Make a cup of tea and glass of water. Lay out your favourite oracle or tarot card decks and wear comfy clothes, pyjamas are more than welcome.
How does it work technically? The group will be held on Zoom, which will need to be downloaded onto the device you will join the book club on (phone/laptop). The link to join the Zoom will appear every week on the day of the book club in the what’s app group.
What is the cost? We kindly ask for a minimum £5 donation per session per person as an energy exchange. We understand this is a challenging time for many, so for anyone who is currently out of work wanting to commit to this inner work but cannot afford donations at present please email to contact@nursethesoul.com as we’d still love for you to join.
