But it’s strange, when you’ve always been told something is true, like the moon will come back. You need proof. And while you wait, you feel the entire balance of your world just tipping. It’s crazy. But when it’s over, and it does come back, that’s the best, because it’s all you want, everything narrows to just that. It’s this great rush, like for that one second everything’s okay with the world again. It’s amazing.

Do you ever wonder whether people would like you more or less if they could see inside you? But I always wonder about that. If people could see me the way I see myself—if they could live in my memories—would anyone, anyone, love me?

Another reason that meditation is so important to me is because it’s a recognition that there are other realms of consciousness that we have the capacity and the ability to tap into, just underneath the chaos of our thoughts and the filter of our senses. There is a place within all of us that is just pure awareness, that exists not in reference to anything else, that is a spacious non-dual void beyond thought. I think this part of us that exists beyond thought is who we really are, I think it’s the essence of who we are, and the essence of all things.
