Nerthus ~ Germanic goddess of the earth, sacred to bogs, agriculture, and fertility. She is always veiled, for looking upon her face is death. Some consider her to be the Queen or Mother of the Vanir, and many scholars speculate her to also be the god Njord, a Norse god of the sea. Contrarily, many believe her to be the wife of Njord, and her children to be Freyja and Freyr. She is carried by a chariot drawn by two cows.
